HOLIDAYS....CELEBRATE....

FINALLY the holidays are here. I'm so excited to have two weeks off work to just relax and do whatever I want.

Christmas is just around the corner, the hot weather is here and it's time to enjoy some time off so I thought I'd share with you what I've been up to recently in pictures. The plan was to spend time at home with the family (my cats included of course) and do a few different things here and there. Nice job Perth, nice job.

DIY Christmas Crackers!

I'm starting to get into the Christmas spirit and this year decided I wanted to make something special and unique for a few of the work girls. Everyone loves a Christmas cracker but I always get disappointed in what you get inside, so I created my own!

What you need:
* wrapping paper (cut to A4 size)
* craft glue
* paper rolls
* ribbon
* cracker snaps
* Christmas surprise gifts

1. Cut out two 7.5cm x 21cm strips of paper and paste on an A4 wrapping paper- around 4.5cm from each edge

2. Cut the toilet roll in half and wrap both halves together tightly with wrapping paper. Leave about 8cm of paper on each end. Tape the cracker snap lightly under the edge of the toilet roll.

3. Gather one end of the cracker and tie a decorative ribbon around it. Fill the inside of the cracker with your goodies. I chose yummy chocolates and a great mini OPI nail polish!

4. Gather and tie the other end of the cracker with the same ribbon and your done!

Sunny Western Australia

I'm very lucky to live in a beautiful place called Perth in Western Australia. It's almost summer time and the gorgeous weather is finally here! So yesterday I took my brother's dog Louis for a walk around the river. Have a look at the path we took. Swans, dogs, sun, para sailing...what more could you ask for on a Sunday afternoon.

Summer Time Essentials

Summer is almost here. We had a taste of the warmer weather on the weekend, when it was a steamy 36 degrees. So I thought it was fitting to start and get a few summer essentials together. Plus I'm off to Melbourne for New Year's and am determined to be prepared for walking around in the sun. Here's what I have so far! I'll keep you posted on any new purchases.

Cotton On Grey Fedora Felt Hat
A great hat is always needed in the summer to protect your face from the harmful rays and also add a touch of style. What I like about this felt one is that it can be worn all year round. It's also a saviour on those bad hair days!

Witchery La Bikini Top
I saw this bikini top in Witchery last week and fell in love with it instantly. It's super flattering and the detailed design steers away from your regular kini. I didn't think the colour would suit me but I was surprised! My plan is to buy some plain black bottoms to pair with it. I'm loving mixing and matching this season.

Novo Reef Sandals with Metallic Strap
Ahh a good pair of flats. I saw these the other week and loved the metallic strap. It actually looks like hardware but in actual fact it's super bendy and flexible. These are great for summer, they go with practically everything and add a bit of glamour and comfort. They also come in gold which I have my eyes on! I like flats that are a bit more dressy for those occasions I don't want to wear heels- which is practically all the time.

T By Bettina Liano Remember Forever Maxi
I got this pretty maxi dress from my parents for my birthday and am so excited to wear it. The photo doesn't do it enough justice- it's extremely flattering, elegant and classy. The bottom panel is sheer and it has a slit up the side giving it that movement when you walk. Everyone needs a great maxi dress for the summer- they can literally work for any occasion. Lunch with the girls? Check. Cocktails on a Saturday night? Check. Off to the beach? Check.

What are you summer essentials?

I Scream Nails

I know it's been a long time since I last blogged and I'm very sorry!
The past couple of months have been so hectic, I haven't had time to scratch myself.

But today I will share with you this GREAT manicure I got.

I was excited when I saw I Scream Nails were coming to Perth for one day on Whitford Shopping Centre's instagram. From 9am-3pm, the girls offered $10 manicures with all proceeds going to Therapy Focus, a not-for-profit organisation providing therapy to WA children with disabilities.

Nail art is so hot right now and the choices they had available were amazing.

I Scream Nails is actually located in Sydney and Melbourne and specialises in amazing hand painted nail art. I will definitely be booking an appointment when I go there next!

So what do you think?

Giuliana + Bill Rancic at Westfield Carousel

Man, what a week it has been! It's been full of fashion, celebrities and dressing up.

After the end of Perth Fashion Festival, I read the exciting news that Giuliana and Bill Rancic were heading to Perth as Style Ambassadors for Westfield. I am such a massive reality TV junkie...it's quite sad actually and people keep telling me to stop admitting it. But I honestly get more star struck over them, then say a movie star. So needless to say, I was ridiculously excited when power couple G&B announced their trip to Western Australia.

I'm a huge Fashion Police fan, so was pretty devastated when I heard the news of Joan Rivers passing. Her and her panel (Giuliana, Kelly Osborne and George Kotsiopolous) made that such a great show. Anyway, back to the real story....

My friend won a competition to sit front row at the fashion show where Guiliana was showcasing her most hunted looks for the upcoming spring season. To say I was jealous was an understatement but I was more than happy just to tag along with her and stand in the massive crowd, which I did.

Just before G&B were due to come on, I realised there were a few empty VIP seats- people hadn't turned up (I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY)- so my friend quickly asked if I could sit there. Soon I was a VIP, sitting front row and about to meet Giuliana Rancic, my god I was excited. It was so amazing, they are even more beautiful in real life (if that's humanly possible)

She wore a fabulous dress by Cue Clothing and shoes by Wittner. Her style is incredible- always chic, on trend and classy. Even more, she was witty, all smiles and seemed genuinely excited to be there. Not one of those snobby, up themselves celebrities.

When the runway show started she had constructive fashion tips and a natural eye for fashion and dressing particular body types.

What I found even nicer was the fact they made time to stop and get photographs with their fans. I read a quote the other day from her that said, "If someone wants a picture, that's an honour and a privilege and you smile and you give them a picture. It's exciting that someone wants a picture of you and I think a lot of people lose sight of that and they think 'oh I'm so annoyed' and you can't think like that though- you always have to remember you're living your dream." Talk about classy!

In my eyes, she's a true style icon.

PS. I literally stood right next to her...just saying!!!

Zhivago Equilibrium

Telstra Perth Fashion Festival ended on a massive high with WA label Zhivago showcasing their spring-summer collection Equilibrium.

Designers Lara Kovacevic and Lydia Tsventnenko stayed true to the Zhivago signature, creating futuristic inspired pieces with their strong, structured shoulders. I felt this was one of the best fashion shows I've seen. The models strutted down the catwalk powerfully, giving the outfits the true confidence they needed. There were a lot of sequins, power suits and metallics giving people a glimpse of futuristic dressing. Guests arrived at the venue to be met with replicant girls handing out mock newspapers. The runway was illuminated to look like a giant microchip and the strobe lighting and electro soundtrack all contributed to the science fiction feel. You definitely need a bout of confidence to wear these clothes; there were lots of deep v necks, tight skirts and short shorts. So not for the fainted hearted!

Perth Fashion Festival Delight

Perth Fashion Festival is an exciting time for West Australian's. PFF is WA's largest annual premier fashion event and is in its 16th year. I was lucky enough to get to go to the Designer Installation show which featured a number of WA designers including:

  • Apate
  • Bhalo
  • Catini Designs
  • Convict
  • Emily Muco
  • Katherine Dunmill
  • Monster Alphabets
  • Tindale
It really was a catwalk with a twist. The U-shaped runway was dotted with illuminated cubes. Models walked out and stood posed against the cubes, giving the audience time to take photographs and really look at the clothes in front of them.

My personal favourite was Monster Alphabets. Monster Alphabets had a gothic look to the collection, which was edgy, subversive and structurally beautiful. I was lucky enough to view their collection last year at PFF and saw incredible growth over just 12 months. WA is lucky to have them representing the state in fashion.

I don't think everyone would have loved the format of the show. I would have liked the lights to remain on while all the models were walking down the catwalk. The lights only came on when they got to their cubes. This meant you could only see the outfit in front of you really clearly which was a little bit disappointing. What I do love most about these sort of shows though is the range of designers you get to see. Each showcased about 10 outfits.

Perth fashion has really stepped up its game. People don't really give our city a lot of credit but I think we can finally say we're on a par with the eastern states. Well done Perth!

Wayne Cooper Wonderland

I have a bit of a shopping problem. Now, I can justify this little addiction by saying it's one of my only vices. I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, party hard- any of that- so buying pretty clothes is my thing.
Last weekend, on yet another shopping trip, I came across a few pieces I just had to have. Wayne Cooper seemed to work for me so I thought I'd share with you my purchases!

Wayne Cooper Ivory Mesh Bomber Jacket
Loveeeeee this jacket! It will be the perfect addition to a summer ensemble for those chilly nights, to spice up an outfit, or even in the colder months now. I wore it the other day with a mint coloured knit and jeans and the mesh detailing really stood out.

Wayne Cooper Mono Butterfly Printed Pant
I'm very sun conscious so in the hotter months I tend to cover up to protect my skin from the rays! Silk printed pants are now my answer to this. I find they're still fashionable but keep you cool. Paired with a cute top and sandals, a great summer outfit is formed.

Wayne Cooper Soft Pant with Mesh Insert
I'm really loving mesh detailing at the moment and came across this great pair of pants. These will be good for so many occasions; work, weekends, going out to dinner. What makes them different from your average black pants is the detail on the side. A racing stripe runs down both legs giving it that little bit of oomph.

My top six tips for office wear chic

The other day I met my friend for lunch on my break. She mentioned to me how difficult she found dressing fashionably for work and was stuck wearing boring black pants and white button up shirts. Working full time now, I’ve had to seriously take a look at my wardrobe so as to not only best maximise what I have but also feel comfortable and stylish.

So I have created my top six tips for being office wear chic.

1. Get the basics
Now I know this sounds boring, but I can’t tell you how valuable a few basic staples are for my work wardrobe. My top items are a classic black and navy dress, black pencil skirt and black/white shirt. Use this as the foundation of your outfit. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve worn the same black dress to work each week but mixed it up with different items. It doesn’t look like the same outfit!

2. Invest in blazers
My favourite piece of clothing. The blazer. I can’t tell you how many blazers I have in my wardrobe. They are the perfect piece of clothing for every occasion, yes EVERY occasion! Invest in a few different styles and you will be surprised with how many places you can rock it. Think you’ll only be able to wear it to work? Think again. Take a classic white blazer for example. At work, if I am feeling more corporate or have an important meeting, I’ll pair it with a structured dress or pencil skirt. Not feeling so corporate? Pair it with pretty blouse and leggings.  For the weekends, I’ll wear it with a cool T-shirt and jeans. Going to a bar on a nice summer’s day? Chuck on that blazer with your cute floral jumpsuit and your good to go.

3. Be well groomed
One thing I have learnt- even if you’re wearing a Chanel suit you can still look trashy if your hair and makeup aren’t properly applied. Neat, clean hair is a must. Whether it’s sophisticatedly pulled back in a bun or down in soft waves, make sure your hair is looking good. When it comes to make up don’t go overboard. You shouldn’t look like you’re heading off to a night club and you shouldn’t look like you’ve just rolled out of bed. Keep it simple; foundation, eyeliner, mascara, a little bit of blush and a touch of lipstick will do the trick. Also, keep your nails nice! There’s nothing worse than looking down at girls’ hands and seeing chipped nail polish- it looks messy, tacky and like you don’t care about your appearance. Trust me, if you have these three things in the bag, your style will automatically look better.

4. Accessorise
The tip to making it look like you have hundreds of outfits! Stock up on scarves, brooches, statement necklaces, belts…anything that stands out. This feature part of your outfit takes centre stage and creates a focal point when people look at you. I have a range of scarves I alternate with my little black dress. The different colours and styles keep the look renewed.

5. Wear appropriate footwear
I’m all for wearing a heel to work. What I have a problem with is are women whose shoes are so high they can’t walk in them and end up stomping around the office like a dinosaur. Keep it appropriate.

6. Shorts are never ok.
Personally I feel like shorts are never appropriate for an office job. End of. Keep them for the weekend!

A Sydney Celebration

You only turn 21 once, so I wanted to make sure my birthday was one I wasn't going to forget. I think the last time I had a birthday party I was about 13 so I was especially excited when I found out we would be going to Sydney to celebrate.

Living in Perth, with the rest of our family based in Sydney, has meant we very rarely get to spend any special occasions together so I was determined to have at least one!

My mum and I took the midnight flight and arrived at The Astral Towers in Darling Harbour around 7am on Friday. After a few hours’ sleep we set off in search for food and coffee and found a great cafe just across the road called XXII. My idea of a holiday is lots of shopping and lots of eating and this is exactly what we did! The food was amazing and so reasonably priced.

Sydney has an absolutely fabulous shopping district in the CBD- we found we didn't even have to leave the area. We combed the streets and shopped til we dropped. I bought so much and somehow managed to stay within my budget. Keep your eye out for my Sydney Shopping Haul post soon! The city itself has such great atmosphere that makes you feel excited and alive.

The Saturday night was the night of the birthday dinner. There were about 16 of us. It was a pretty special moment for me; I don’t think I've ever had a family celebration like that before. What was strange was getting back to the apartment and having physical gifts to open from everyone!

My actual birthday-day was special. We went out for breakfast and spent the day shopping. We found this fabulous designer discount store hidden away in the city with some truly great bargains. After almost a year of searching I also found my dream leather jacket! That night we went to a great restaurant on Sydney's waterfront called Wolfies. It quite possibly could have been one of the best meals I've ever had. It also had a beautiful view of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. In summer it would be the ultimate dining location. As a birthday present my parents got me this gorgeous Tiffany & Co bangle and infinity ring; something I can treasure for the rest of my life.

It was a weekend I will never forget and just quietly... I would move there in a heartbeat. Look out Sydney, I may-be-a-coming!
