A little bit of Lanvin heaven

I was realllllly naughty the other week and decided I MUST have a pair of Lanvin ballet flats. Now, in my defence these will be an investment piece….I’ve been saying that a lot I know…but they will be.
For years, I have read amazing reviews on these shoes about how comfortable they are. Honestly, I thought this was a bit of lie considering every designer pair of shoes I’ve owned have been absolute torture to wear!

But when I saw these Lanvin’s on sale at Cult Status at half price (!!!!!) I knew I had to go and try them on. I would never pay full price for something like this, its way to expensive and easy to find a cheaper alternative. But readers of the blogging world, if you EVER and I mean EVER need a pair of flats that you can wear with anything and can walk around for hours without getting horrendous blisters or crippled feet, these are the ones for you.

I must say they are the most luxuriously comfortable shoes I have ever owned.

When I was going through the sale items, I was pondering which style to get. I had my eye on a pair of navy blue satin flats but decided on classic black. I opted for the black flat- toe cap with accessories. I figured for the price I should have a few different styles to choose from.

These shoes come with 2 different accessories, "Grosgrain Bow" and "petal" attachments, that you can clip on to create a different set of shoes, essentially three styles in one. They also have a concealed heel that measures approximately 20mm making them super padded.

Lots of celebrities have been spotted wearing them including Victoria Beckham and Angelina Jolie.

I would say they run true to size, but luckily they do come in half sizes if you’re in between.

Be sure to get in quick, as while they are expensive, they run out the door on feet who cherish them quick smart….especially at half price.

Feeding and organising a nail polish addiction

Today I thought I’d try out a brand I haven’t used before. Enter Sugar Baby. Never one to shy away from something different, I spotted this colour from a distance in Myer on the weekend and knew I had to have it.
This is after two coats plus a top coat from Manicare.

It went on well, but did I did need to apply two coats to make it even and solid. The top coat gave it that extra shine you normally see in Shellac.
I’ve had this on for a few days now and the chipping is minimal.
All in all, a great buy.
RRP: $9.95

After buying this and going to put it in my box with my other polishes I realised I was getting sick and tired of my nail polishes going clumpy and becoming unusable in the box I had them in. They would always tip over, spill out, make a mess and look horrible. Not to mention, it was very difficult to ever find anything and I started buying colours I already had! So I did a bit of research and found this great nail polish stand on eBay.

Now look how pretty and organised my nail polishes are! Yay! It was a bit pricey, but in my books totally worth it.
What organisation tips have you found for your beauty products?

A few essentials for the investment clutch

Today was my parents 32 wedding anniversary, so to celebrate we made plans to set off to Crown Perth for dinner.

Working full time at a newspaper, I popped out to the local shop on my lunch break to snap up a few beauty items. As you may have seen from a previous post, I was lucky enough to get a Saint Laurent Classic Y Clutch in black leather (total investment piece) !!! I was so excited for this but realised I need a few small essentials to place in the not so large compartments.
So I went to Target in my lunch break and bought a few makeup items that would fit perfectly, not make a mess and come in handy when I need to make a quick dash to fix up any makeup. My kit includes; a powder brush, foundation sponge, eyebrow brush, conturing eyeshadow brush, small nail file and pa paw cream for chapped lips.

My dinner at Bistro Guillaume was absolutely incredible- by far the nicest decor I have ever seen. It also looked over the beautiful new pool.

Answers to Beauty and Whit's questions

1. Do you wear makeup every day?

I just started my first full time job in the media industry, so I like to make sure I look polished and refined for work. I do wear makeup pretty much every day but try to keep it to a minimum. My philosophy is that makeup should enhance the features you have, which is what I try to do. I try and keep it natural.

2.      What is your favorite place to shop?
I love to travel to Sydney, Australia, to shop. Coming from Perth, Western Australia, we don't have a massive range compared- but we're getting there! Sydney nurtures Australian designers and they have a great selection of Aussie designers located all throughout the CBD.

3.     How would you describe your personal style?
I would describe my style as classic, conservative with a bit of sass. I try to stay away from trends and wear clothes I find flattering to my body type and will last more than a season.

4.     Do you prefer high-end or drugstore makeup, and why?

I like to mix the two. I use high end makeup for the likes of foundation, blush and powder as I find they have a greater chance of matching your skin tone and also as its something I use daily I like to spend a bit more. I use drugstore makeup for lipsticks, eyeshadows and nail polish. You can get some amazing bargains that look fabulous.

5.     What is your favorite brand of makeup?

My favourite brand of makeup is MAC and Clinique. The formulas work for my skin and are a great match. It doesn't even feel like you're wearing any makeup!

6.     What is one product you can’t live without?

I cant live without mascara....my eyes look bald without it!

7.     Do you have a New Year’s resolution, and if so what is it?

My New Year's resolution is to live a healthier lifestyle. It's not something I've ever taken into account so I want to exercise more and make a conscious effort to drink more water!

8.     Name three things on your wish list.

- Chanel bag!
- great skin
- healthy family

9.     What do you hope to accomplish or gain from blogging?

I want to share my voice and opinions on fashion, style, media and journalism with the world and read the blogs of people with similar interests.

10.  What is your proudest or exciting moment so far from blogging?

Reaching 100 followers :)

11.  How long have you been blogging?

I've had my blog for a year or so but have only recently began writing daily posts.

Questions for my nominees:
1. What is your favourite season to dress for?
2. What is your ultimate style tip?
3. Describe your style
4. Who is your favourite designer?
5. How often do you update your blog and why?
6. How often do you go shopping?
7. What are your top three beauty products?
8. Lipstick or nailpolish? why?
9. Who is your favourite model?
10. What are you goals for your blog?
11. What is your favourite online store?

The perks of being West Australian

From November 2013- February 2014, the WA Museum will host Aurelio Costarella: A 30 Year Retrospective.

Arguably one of WA’s most successful designers, the exhibition is there to celebrate Costarella’s longevity and accomplishments.  Featuring exquisite garments, photographs, video and textiles, visitors can follow his progression from an emerging talent to the internationally renowned and celebrated designer he is today.

Costarella's pieces were fabulously set out, spreading over the entire museum and infused into different exhibitions. When I went to visit, I was lucky enough to go at a time where there was also another exhibition showing the glamour behind Australian Fashion Week.

Frock Stars looks back at this history behind AFW and at its centre, showcases 15 garments from major Australian designers including Zimmermann’s ‘60s inspired swimwear, exquisite demi-couture evening gowns by Toni Maticevski and Michelle Jank, streetwear by Ksubi, the irreverent Iced VoVo dress by Romance Was Born and the classically inspired Ice Blue knot pleated dress by rising star Dion Lee.

Take a look at some of the photographs I captured of the day and if you’re in Perth, be sure to stop by.

Calvin Klein Spring 2014

Calvin Klein. The essence of chic, classic elegance with a touch of sass.  That pretty much sums up the 2014 spring collection.
Celebrating his tenth year at Calvin Klein, head designer Francisco Costa kept true to the house’s roots, opting to continue the minimalism signature that has gained the label the title of one of the most covetable.
Costa called it ‘elevated deconstruction’ and it started off very similar to most CK collections, opting for white ensembles. What struck a chord was the introduction of colour. There was a mixture of emerald green, mint and flashes of pink and red, a rarity for CK.
Not all of Costa’s ideas were successful- some materials appeared too stiff and some designs made you wonder who would want to wear their seam allowances on the outside of their clothes but it was a gutsy show that Costa should certainly celebrate and remember.
