From November 2013- February 2014, the WA Museum will host Aurelio Costarella: A 30 Year Retrospective.
Arguably one of WA’s most successful designers, the exhibition is there to
celebrate Costarella’s longevity and accomplishments. Featuring exquisite garments, photographs,
video and textiles, visitors can follow his progression from an emerging talent
to the internationally renowned and celebrated designer he is today.
Costarella's pieces were fabulously set out, spreading over the entire museum and infused
into different exhibitions. When I went to visit, I was lucky enough to go at a time
where there was also another exhibition showing the glamour behind Australian
Fashion Week.
Frock Stars looks back
at this history behind AFW and at its centre, showcases 15 garments from major
Australian designers including Zimmermann’s ‘60s inspired swimwear, exquisite
demi-couture evening gowns by Toni Maticevski and Michelle Jank, streetwear by
Ksubi, the irreverent Iced VoVo dress by Romance Was Born and the classically
inspired Ice Blue knot pleated dress by rising star Dion Lee.
Take a look at some of the photographs I captured of the day
and if you’re in Perth, be sure to stop by.
